Two pathways are offered at this level. Students will be required to choose one of the following -
In Level one thinking creatively in the field of graphic design is emphasised. Students will be encouraged to follow themes that engage their personal interests. Individual theme ideas will be used to formulate personalised briefs in the second half of the year. Through the course, Students will be introduced to basic design and Photography principles in conjunction with the study of specific Designers both traditional and contemporary. Students will also be introduced to Photo shop which will be used as an essential tool for manipulating and developing work. Term one and twoTime is spent exploring imagery and type and developing design ideas. A set selection of established and contemporary Photographers and Design models are used to underpin their study. They are then asked to produce work that communicates and reflects contemporary ideas arising from the specific demands of their personalized brief. Term three and fourStudents continue to develop their brief in both workbook studies, roughs and final mock ups for PANEL PRESENTATION. The PANEL is the externally marked component of the course and consists of 2 x A1 boards joined together. The work on the panel will show the development process of image and type ideas, logo and poster. 2.PRINTMAKING and PAINTINGThe theme throughout the Paint and Print level One course is Icons of Popular Culture (ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images that are popular with teens) with an emphasis on food items and logos in history and in the 21st century. Students will be encouraged to pick their own subject matter, generate and extend their ideas to produce work that is personalised to their interests and enables their own creativity to develop. Students will be introduced to a variety of contemporary and historical artist models and will be pushed to extend their own ideas in a direction that is new and exciting. Emphasis in Term one will be on refining drawing and painting skills and selecting an appropriate thematic direction that is motivating for each student. A workbook will document thoughts, ideas and practical investigations throughout each term. Term one and twoWe will begin to look at text, popular logos, advertising, and objects that can be replicated in a screen printing format and painting mediums. Term three and fourWe will be focusing on producing our external folio panels .This is when students will need to clarify and refine practical skills and thematic directions so their panels develop systematically and show their own personal style and creativity. A full filled, colourful year of experimentation and refining painting and printmaking skills is to be expected. Students who are passionate about creativity and enjoy working in all fields of the Arts should consider this course. |

| Why this course? |
|
This course is enables students to gain a taste of what the study of Painting / Photography / Design entails at the senior level. In completing this course student will be more informed about the specific direction they wish their Art to take at Level Two.
